Boasting an audience of the world’s most influential and affluent professionals (the average household income of a LinkedIn member is $109,000, it’s no wonder LinkedIn has become a growing destination for successful business owners!
So how can you maximise on the vast potential this social network has to offer?
1) Create a company page & connect it to your profile.
While your profile is a great way for people interested in your services to get to know the face behind the brand, there are many updates that are much better received coming from a brand page as opposed to an individual.
Connect it to your profile so people can find it easily, and use it to post updates on your business’ latest ventures, products, events, etc., as well as sharing on your personal profile.
2) Post regular updates.
Keep your updates relevant and current by posting regularly. You don’t want to go overboard and be perceived as spam, but enough that you stay top of mind for people who may want to connect with you, and shows your expertise in your field – make it relevant to you/your business, keep it informative and do not try and sell to people.
3) Get Connected!
Show off your connections to people that will lend help to your credibility, and skip connecting with those that won’t. By strategically connecting yourself, you will help establish a reliable network of business professionals you can collaborate with in the future!
A great rule of thumb to keep you from going overboard is to only add people who you would comfortably connect with by phone (great tip from CopyBlogger)!
Increase visibility by inviting employees and partners to join you on LinkedIn as well and represent your business and you personally.
4) Answer Questions and participate in groups.
Show off your knowledge by answering questions that will exhibit your expertise, establishing you as an authority in your industry, and building connections with potential clients!

The same principles can be applied in a group, where the more you interact in a helpful and professional manner, the more credibility and positive reputation is built up for your business!
Posting or blogging regularly is another successful way to get your name out there as well as become a subject matter expert. Posting once a week is a good way get the ball rolling, if once a week is too much to ask then try every second week instead – however be consistent.
If your profile is set to public, then it will be indexed by Google, meaning this is a great opportunity for some extra exposure if you approach it strategically.
Ensure you are using keywords that relate to your business in everything you do, from profile text to status updates, and everything in between!
While it’s always important to carefully evaluate whether a certain social network will benefit your business, with such a huge opportunity for building crucial business connections, LinkedIn is definitely somewhere every successful business owner needs to have a presence!
